Organizational Context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 191-member National Societies (NSs). The overall aim of the IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by NSs with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” The IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.
IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), together with its member National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The work of the IFRC is guided by the following fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
IFRC is led by its Secretary General, and has its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Headquarters are organized into three main Divisions: (i) National Society Development and Operations Coordination; (ii) Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization; and (iii) Management Policy, Strategy and Corporate Services.
IFRC has five regional offices in Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and the Americas. IFRC also has country cluster delegation and country delegations throughout the world. Together, the Geneva Headquarters and the field structure (regional, cluster and country) comprise the IFRC Secretariat.
IFRC has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment and other forms of harassment, abuse of authority, discrimination, and lack of integrity (including but not limited to financial misconduct). The National Society Development and Operations Coordination (NSDOC) Division is in turn organized into three Departments, each of them led by a Director. The Disasters & Climate Crises (Prevention, Response & Recovery) Department consists of four units, including the Socio-Economic Empowerment unit which includes the Cash and Voucher Assistance, CEA, and Food Security and Livelihoods teams.
Cash and Voucher Assistance is offering an internship opportunity to provide hands-on experience to students and recent graduates of Data management and analysis, Statistics, or Humanitarian studies. This program aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical experience.
Job Purpose
The main purpose of the internship is to expose qualified students to the practicalities of humanitarian programming. As part of the Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) team in the Socio-Economic Empowerment unit, the intern will support the migration of CVA related data into the Global CVA Repository as well as support the ECHO Programmatic Partnership Pillar 4 CVA Mapping. The intern will work closely with CVA colleagues particularly the Regional CVA Coordinators to identify the regional CVA data, update the Global CVA Repository and ensure the operations and programs have up-to-date CVA information readily available.
The objective of the internship is to gradually transfer all the regional and global CVA data on Operations, Preparedness, and Capacity Building and provide Level 1 support to the Regional Coordinators in the use of the Global CVA Repository.
Furthermore, this internship will broaden knowledge and will help the intern to understand RCRC approaches to providing humanitarian assistance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Officer, Cash Preparedness and Capacity Building in Cash and Voucher Assistance team, the intern will undertake the following tasks and is not limited to:

Data Migration and Management:
- Assist in transferring existing CVA (Cash and Voucher Assistance) data into the Global CVA Repository
- Ensure data accuracy and completeness during the migration process

Repository Maintenance:
- Regularly assist Regional Coordinators to update the Global CVA Repository with new Data
- Coordinate with 510 and IFRC Digital Transformation team in maintenance of the repository
- Implement quality control measures to ensure data integrity
- Develop guidance documentation for repository usage and data entry procedures

Information Accessibility:
- Develop user-friendly methods for operations and programs to access up-to-date CVA data
- Assist in designing dashboards or other visualization tools for easy data interpretation

ECHO Pilot Programmatic Partnership Support:
- Contribute to the report for the CVA Mapping for Pillar 4 of the ECHO Pilot Programmatic Partnership
- Collect and compile relevant CVA data from National Society CVA focal points.
- Assist in creating visual representations of the CVA mapping data
The intern will also be expected to perform any other work related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager.
Education
Required
-
Be currently enrolled in a university or equivalent level or have graduated recently (normally within 1 year from the date of hiring) in Data or Information management, Statistics, Data Analyst, Disaster Management, Economics, or similar related to humanitarian assistance or another relevant subject.
Experience
Preferred
- Research, information management, structuring of data, development of Power BI Dashboards.
- Knowledge of humanitarian assistance and the IFRC / RCRC movement.
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
Required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of disaster preparedness and response sectors (i.e. relief, food security, disaster risk reduction, etc.)
- Flexible and adaptable to work effectively in diverse cultural settings.
- Analytical and strategic thinking.
Preferred
- Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic).
