Deputy Director / Assistant Director

Zhongguancun Academy is a state-level premier AI research institute committed to advancing cutting-edge research, educating the next generation of talent, and fostering close collaboration between academia and industry–including the incubation of innovative startup companies. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Vice Director (or Assistant Director) who will contribute at the strategic level and directly oversee key facets of the institute’s operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director and the leadership team to shape long-term strategies and ensure the successful implementation of our mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Candidates may contribute to two or more of the following:

1. Strategic Leadership & Planning:

Collaborate with the Director to shape and execute long-term strategies that advance the institute’s research, educational programs, and industry engagement.

Drive initiatives that foster a culture of innovation and challenge conventional approaches.

2. Graduate Education & Talent Development:

Enhance and oversee graduate training programs to ensure the cultivation of interdisciplinary, innovative, and socially responsible talent.

Support the development of flexible and forward-thinking curricula aligned with both emerging research trends and industry needs.

3. Advanced Research Oversight:

Direct or support multidisciplinary research projects that explore both fundamental research and application-driven challenges in AI.

Facilitate the acquisition of major research projects and funding opportunities through effective collaboration with other research institutes and industry partners.

4. Academia–Industry Collaboration:

Establish and nurture partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry leaders to drive collaborative projects and innovation.

Represent the academy at domestic and international forums, enhancing its visibility and strategic alliances.

5. Administrative & Cross-Department Coordination:

Ensure effective implementation of policies and strategies by coordinating with various departments and managing internal resources.

Prepare strategic reports and communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Educational Background: An advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Leadership Experience: At least 2 years of leadership experience in academic or research settings, with a strong track record in managing interdisciplinary teams and programs.

Visionary Mindset: Demonstrated ability to conceive and launch innovative research or educational programs that have led to measurable outcomes, which aligns with the academy’s commitment to breakthrough research and innovative, project-driven education, etc.

Global Engagement: A deep international perspective with a proven ability to engage with global partners and an understanding of international trends in AI research and education.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills in both English and Chinese, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

Organizational Skills: with the ability to plan strategically, work proactively, and adapt to evolving priorities.
