PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT:

This role will provide specific partnership management support to the PFP Corporate Partnership Team for the US market, focusing on strengthening and enhancing key relationships with the US Fund and strategic corporate partners headquartered in the US.

Under the general guidance of the Corporate Partnerships Manager for the US pillar, this role will offer strategic support to a defined portfolio of existing high value partnerships in the US, collaborating closely with partners to support their implementation, foster sustainable growth, and secure renewals.

Key responsibilities will include coordinating and executing partnership activities, ensuring alignment with both organizational and partner objectives, and identifying new opportunities for collaboration.  It will also include the contribution to key renewal discussions. Successful outcomes in this role will ensure that these partnerships meet or exceed financial resource targets while also achieving broader objectives, such as expanding the organization’s reach, influencing key audiences, and enhancing its reputation and respect in the market.

Working alongside the lead market, the Consultant will support the strategic direction, proposition development, management, recognition opportunities, growth, and renewal of high-value partnerships.

This role will also provide additional strategic support on other key projects, such as the strategic review of US national partners with potential for growth, refining a newly developed AI Strategy and other projects.

These tasks will require close collaboration with PFP units as well as other divisions within UNICEF, such as the Programme Group, the Division of Global Communication & Advocacy, and others, to deliver the desired outcomes.

WORK ASSIGNMENTS OVERVIEW DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS – November 2024 to October 2025
Strategic support to existing US partnerships requiring Medium-Level support from PFP. Support the US Fund portfolio of partnerships by assisting with their implementation, growth, and renewal. For each account have a clear understanding of PFP role and a clear plan of action to support the partnerships implementation, growth, and renewals.
Strategic support to existing US partnerships requiring Low-level support from PFP. Support the US Fund portfolio of partnerships by assisting with their implementation, growth, and renewal. For each account have a clear understanding of PFP role and a clear plan of action to support the partnerships implementation, growth, and renewals.
Strategic support to existing Canadian partnerships. Support the Canadian Natcom portfolio of partnerships by assisting with their implementation, growth, and renewal. For each account have a clear understanding of PFP role and a clear plan of action to support the partnerships implementation, growth, and renewals.
Review of existing tools, processes, and way of working between PFP and the US Fund to ensure continuous efficiency. Clear tools and processes aligned between the US Fund and PFP.
Review of current US national portfolio that might have potential to expand and grow – Development of strategic approach and key criteria. Work closely with the US Fund to agree on a set of criteria that will help review their existing portfolio and determine which partners might have high potential to expand and grow outside of the US market.
Review of current US national portfolio that might have potential to expand and grow – Portfolio review against the criteria. Identification of a list of US partners with potential for expansion and growth. Goal: Identify at least 2 partners with proposed plan of action.
Strategic support to key upcoming partnership renewals – Mobilization of internal resources. Work closely with the US Fund to identify key partnerships up for renewal and support the identification of strategic opportunities. Mobilize internal resources and expertise from other Units and Divisions.
Strategic support to key upcoming partnership renewals – External dissemination. Support the US Fund in sharing these opportunities with external partners. The modalities will be agreed with the US Fund according to the partnership needs, and could include the development and review of proposals, concept notes, pitching deck, as well as the support of key meetings.
Capture best practices identified with active partnerships across selected sectors, such as Finance, Health & Pharma, or Gaming. Once the sectors have been agreed with the US Fund, review engagement modalities and results, and develop a ‘best practices’ model with clear ‘success factors’ to support partnerships growth. Ideally this will also capture external trends.
Strategic support to partners of UNICEF Mental Health Coalition. Act as team focal point for the Mental Health Coalition, identifying and coordinating opportunities for recognition and growth.
AI/Tech Strategy – Mobilization of internal resources. Collaborate closely with the Corporate team, and other units and Divisions to review and refine a recently developed AI/Tech Strategy to engage corporate partners.
AI/Tech Strategy – Dissemination. Once endorsed, support the dissemination of the AI Strategy to markets organizing webinars, calls, meetings and support the coordination of a newly created Tech Reference Group.

TRAVEL:

There might be a possibility of travel during the assignment on a per need basis and this will be covered separately by UNICEF and not included in the lump sum fee.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: 

  • Advanced university degree in Business, Marketing, International Relations, Social Sciences, or related fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two years additional work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional work experience in corporate partnerships is required, ideally including experience in a field or programme setting, commercial or non-commercial partnership management, or marketing.
  • At least two (2) years of international experience in the aforementioned areas.

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language is desirable.

Remarks: 

Please indicate your all-inclusive (lump sum) fees against the deliverables listed above, including all associated administrative and travel costs (if applicable), in the cover letter. The office selects the individual based on best value for money.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
