Euroclima is the regional cooperation programme that fosters the strategic partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean, based on shared values and a commitment to jointly address climate change and biodiversity loss.
Euroclima is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Government through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It seeks to contribute to sustainable, resilient and inclusive transition through climate mitigation and adaptation efforts, including protection, restoration, biodiversity conservation and the promotion of the circular economy.
Euroclima is part of the renewed Agenda for Relations between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean and is part of the Global Gateway strategy that promotes investments and financing in relevant sectors, as well as the use of other instruments of the EU and its Member States to achieve more sustainable, just and interconnected societies.
It is implemented under the spirit of Team Europe, through the synergic work of seven agencies: Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), AFD Group: Agence Française de Développement (AFD)/ Expertise France (EF), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Fundación Internacional y para Iberoamérica de Administración y Políticas Públicas (FIIAPP), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
GIZ is looking for a PRIVATE SECTOR SPECIALIST (m/f/d) for our Euroclima team in Brussels as focal point for contact of GIZ-Euroclima to the European private sector (associations and companies) starting 01.01.2025
The responsibilities of the position include:
- Provide technical and strategic advice on effective private sector engagement for Euroclima in line with the EU Global Gateway Strategy
- Strengthen the orientation of Euroclima’s regional as well as its in-country activities in Latin America and the Caribbean towards market development, business development, and project development
- Connect Euroclima with the European industries providing technologies for climate relevant sectors in the Latin America and Caribbean region such as renewable energy production, storage and transport (including green hydrogen), sustainable transport, resilient construction, bio-economy and other
- Conceptualize, organize and execute both online and in-person events, liaising with donors and partners to promote joint activities with relevant stakeholders in the partner region
- Facilitate and strengthen the engagement with the private sector to implement the Global Gateway strategy through Euroclima, including identifying business opportunities for European private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean in line with climate change goals under the Paris Agreement and the GGIA
- Identify and develop together with Euroclima climate finance specialist partnerships and strategic alliances that promote investments and financing in relevant sectors
- Monitor activities as required by the project funders, including using online reporting tools and written reports describing project activities and progress
- Lead on knowledge management for the private sector activities
- Respond to additional tasks or responsibilities, following the needs of the project, required from the Team Leader in order to reach the Euroclima goals, mainly related to the Global Gateway Investment Agenda
Profile
- University degree, preferably in economics, finance, law, public affairs or equivalent.
- At least five years of professional experience in the European private sector, private banking and / or private sector associations at the European level.
- Work experience in business development, investment and corporate strategy within relevant European companies in the sector of renewable energy, sustainable transport / logistics, construction, bio-economy is an asset
- Familiarity with international climate policy is a strong asset
- Strong proven writing skills required
- Proficient in written and spoken English and Spanish (comparable to C2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for at least one of two languages) is a requirement. Fluent third language like Portuguese, French, or German is an asset
- Work experience in developing countries (preferably in Latin America, Caribbean) and experience with international cooperation institutions is an asset
- Strong networking skills and ability to identify and engage relevant private sector stakeholders
- Hands on, creative, highly motivated and result oriented personality
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural team and liaise effectively and sensitively with different stakeholders
- Experience in engaging with diverse communities through inclusive communications and engagement processes is an asset
- Passionate about fighting climate change
We offer a temporary contract with GIZ in Brussels under Belgian law (PC200). The position will be remunerated according to the level of experience. In addition to the legal holidays, you will receive 5 extra days of holiday per calendar year, as well as lunch checks, health insurance for hospitalisation and the reimbursement of a monthly ticket for Brussels public transport and the possibility for home office in accordance with our respective policy.
